Truth:
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed. Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV
Most scholars believe the book of Lamentations was written by the prophet Jeremiah. “This is a book about pain but with hope in God. The author vividly addresses the extremes of human pain and suffering….Lamentations is an important biblical source expressing the hard questions that arise during our times of pain.”*
Does that sound like something you know about today? This Truth is that God provides mercies and compassions that never fail. No matter what you are reading today from social media, from the news sources, or from people around you, God in His omniscience is surrounding you with His loving care. Are we so distracted by the events that we forget Who holds our future? Are we focusing on the “bad stuff” instead of listening to His Truths that have held for generations before us and can lead us through the next generations?
“New every morning!” I love this! What a promise that we can have newness, positive days, filled with His mercies and His love, and His faithfulness every single day no matter what the circumstances. Don’t forget the Truth in the previous blog: Choose life so that you and your descendants may live; Love the Lord your God, Obey Him, and Remain faithful to Him. Deuteronomy 30:19-20. When we choose to listen to God’s Truth, we can know His Faithfulness as a new, breath of fresh air, every day! Faithfulness is unwavering, steadfast, loyal, dependable, reliable, and trustworthy. I want these factors in my life. God is all of these and more.
We do not have to be consumed by the world’s issues. We can focus on this promise and remember He is here with His faithfulness.
When you find yourself sliding down, reach out to this Truth. Write it on your heart by memorizing it. Hold it close. Write it on a sticky note and put it where you can “see” it daily. Let it become your “go-to” promise. Write down the times you know God’s faithfulness was surrounding you. If you can’t remember anything specific, start with the fact that you are here reading this blog. You are here because God is watching over you and giving you an opportunity to experience His faithfulness now.
Jeremiah wrote this Truth after he was having bitter thoughts about the struggles of the Israelites. He quickly turned his thoughts. Instead of brooding over his anguish and sorrow, he put his hope in the love of the Lord.* (For further reading check out Psalm 15:5; 73:26; 119:57; and Psalm 142.51.)
Share your newness in this day with someone else. I’ll be listening to see what God is doing right now. Henry Blackaby has said, “God is at work around us. We just have to join Him!” “God’s faithfulness gives you reason for hope. Express that hope to Him.” **
This is a Truth for you heart!
